Planning a website

Prepare website content without rewriting everything

Create a practical inventory to keep useful material, identify gaps and organise approvals.

Build an inventory you can use

Create a table with one row per page: current URL, purpose, audience, available content and owner. Add a decision: keep, revise, merge or retire. The table should help people act; it does not need to describe every sentence. Start with offer pages and the pages connected to your most important enquiries.

Gather evidence before slogans

A service page needs verifiable information: deliverables, intended audience, stages and authorised examples. Gather those elements before looking for a memorable headline. For each testimonial or result, retain its source and the necessary permission. If evidence is missing, explain the proposed method clearly instead of inventing a success story.

Prepare images for their context

A wide hero image and a thumbnail serve different purposes. Record the subject, available dimensions and usage rights. Separate informative visuals, which communicate something, from decorative elements. Give files understandable names too. This avoids discovering late in the project that an important photograph cannot be cropped appropriately.

Organise language versions

Connect every French page to its English equivalent in the table. Approve the meaning and offer before translating provisional wording. Examples, calls to action and linked documents need checking too. Keep a simple status for each version: prepare, review or approved. Finishing one language does not mean the pair is ready.

Your checklist

  • One inventory row per page, with an owner.
  • Evidence and permissions stored with the content.
  • Images organised by use and format.
  • Separate approval status for each language.
